Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma Shouldn’t Have Left”: Mohammed Kaif Keen On Experiments Against WI

Published:

India skipper Rohit Sharma and ace batter Virat Kohli were rested for the second and third One-Day Internationals against the West Indies.

Former Indian batsman Mohammed Kaif believes that India’s current tour of the West Indies is being treated lightly because there has been a lot of experimentation and opportunities given to youngsters, particularly in the ODI leg of the tour, and that decisions about the team should be made from the Asia Cup, as they should field their best playing XI.

India won the one-day international series against the West Indies 2-1. A lot of tests were carried out within the team. Veterans such as Virat Kohli and skipper Rohit Sharma were rested, while newcomers and non-regulars such as Sanju Samson, Ruturaj Gaikwad, Mukesh Kumar, Suryakumar Yadav, Jaydev Unadkat, and others were given opportunities.

We would not rate the team based on their performance on the West Indies Tour. The West Indies are having a difficult time. They were unable to qualify for the World Cup. I’m not sure what the team’s management is attempting, but the Asia Cup will be the first major competition for me.

If Virat and Rohit had to take a break from their careers, they should not have gone,” Kaif told the media on the occasion of the ‘Pitchside-My Life in Indian Cricket’ book launch.
