Cricketer Mahika Gaur, who adores MS Dhoni, rewrites history by representing two national teams

Published:

Mahika Gaur, who made her international debut at the age of 12, made headlines on Friday when she made her second international appearance, this time for England. Mahika was named to England’s starting XI for a T20I against Sri Lanka. The deft left-arm seamstress Mahika also got her first international wicket on her big day, defeating Chamari Athapaththu. However, if it hadn’t been for the weather, Mahika could have taken more wickets.

England batted first and went on to score 186 runs, with Danielle Wyatt and Alice Capsey leading the way. Sri Lanka was 55-3 in 6 overs when the match was called off due to rain. England was judged the DLS victor by 12 runs.

After the game, England skipper Heather Knight heaped admiration on the 6-foot-3-inch Mahika. “Mahika was excellent on her debut,” Knight stated. “After the rain, she had to switch to death bowling, and she fulfilled her plan flawlessly. At that height, she has a late swing that is pretty lethal.”

Mahika, who looks up to MS Dhoni and Mitchell Starc, has made significant strides towards being a polished fast bowler. But she, too, hopes to complete tournaments like Mahi’s one day.
