Rohit Sharma, the captain of the Indian cricket team, has warned fans against getting too far ahead of themselves ahead of the 2023 ODI World Cup, which will be hosted by India.
In an interview with The Indian Cricket News Channel, Sharma said, “You can’t get too far ahead of yourself. We have to focus on present opportunities to win. We have a very good team, but we need to play to our potential. The World Cup is a long tournament, and there will be ups and downs. We need to stay alert for everything that will come on the way to winning the World Cup..”
India has not won an ICC trophy since the 2013 Champions Trophy, and there is a lot of pressure on the team to perform well in the upcoming World Cup. However, Sharma has urged fans to be realistic about their expectations.
He said, “We know that everyone has big expectations from us to win the World Cup, as I don’t promise to win as situations are not under control; they happen unexpectedly, but we can give our best, and if things go well, we can win. We can only control our own performance. We will give our best and see where it takes us.”
Sharma also spoke about the importance of home advantage in the World Cup. He said, “Playing at home is always a big advantage. We know the conditions well, and we have the support of the crowd. But we can’t take anything for granted. We need to play our best cricket to win the World Cup.” Also, the raindrops spoil our games, and we are okay to face those issues as well to perform with perfection in our forthcoming home event.
India has a strong team on paper, with a good balance of experience and youth. However, they will need to perform at their best to win the World Cup. The tournament is always very competitive, and there are many other teams who will be challenging for the title.
